Location United Kingdom Kent AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THE U.K. | On a recent trip to a shoot in Derby I stopped overnight for a nap at Toddington Services. As my previous appointment had cancelled I was early so stopped at Donington Services for a rest and a bite to eat. I was aware that you had to buy a ticket if stopping for over 4 hours but since I was in the van I knew I could keep an eye out for anyone dishing out parking tickets. Obviously they must now have installed number plate readers rather than wardens - my trip to Derby earnt me £160 in parking tickets! Still, what's money - can't buy you happiness! | ||

Location United Kingdom Lancashire Brock | I'll second this- there is one that serves both directions of the M6- you pull of the motorway to reach it. Well, I once happened to stop there twice in the same day (for about 15 minutes each time), once one the trip to Brum, and once on the way back. Well, cut a long story short, it clocked my number plate going in the FIRST time, and leaving the SECOND time, so I got a bill for 17 hours parking. I successfully challenged it (it was their error), but even so, it's very annoying. |

Location United Kingdom South Yorkshire Doncaster | Do not pay it!!!! These are private companies and have no way of enforcing the fine once you have left the site. I used to be a long distance lorry driver so used them on a regular basis and as we were abnormal load specialists, we rarely ever paid, we got tickets on a daily basis and when we challenged them, we were told they were worthless pieces of scrap paper! The only wY they can enforce them is to clamp you on the spot which of course makes you liable to a release fee. Only downside is your reg will go a hit list and you risk getting clamped swiftly if you return, no great loss! |

I would agree with this, if the DVLA pass on your details they are in contravention of the Data Protection Act. A couple of year ago we needed a courtesy car and the hire company needed our consent to speak to the DVLA. Cheers Les |

I'm guessing if someone's putting money in their hands anything's reasonable though What would be interesting is whether the ticket is aimed at the (edit to change vehicle type) |

Location United Kingdom Grampian Aberdeen | Learn the route and figure out where there is a layby on a A road somewhere. That's what I do. If you know a friendly trucker they might give you a few tips. There was a website a few years ago that told people how to avoid the Motorway services to advertise services/stop overs that was off the beaten track, not sure if it's still around. |
