Location United Kingdom Northamptonshire Northampton | Hi, New to PS and very nervous about this! Starting to put a portfolio together, here are a few portrait type shots that I would like some constructive critique of if you wouldn't mind. Have a few shoots set up over this weekend so hoping to add to this next week, your initial thoughts. Cheers Cliffie |

Location United Kingdom Warwickshire Rugby | First image to me is heavily post processed and the soft focus/blur doesnt do it any justice. The others to me show colour balance issues and very basic lighting/poorly exposed. Framing needs work too. If you want my honest opinion there very basic and certainly not something i would charge for. Thats just my opinion and not meant in a "Shoot you down manner" just no point prentending on my thoughts. Good luck. |

Location United Kingdom Northamptonshire Northampton | Thanks, Your thoughts are much appreciated and taken on board. First image point taken probably got carried away! Will look at the colour in particular, first time using Lightroom (Beta 3) have used bridge in the past will go back when I get time and try again with the original raw images and post again. Didn't charge for any of these images thankfully, just learning the new lighting set so tfp. Thanks again for the input. Cliffie |

Location United Kingdom Nottinghamshire Mansfield | Didn't charge for any of these images thankfully, just learning the new lighting set so tfp. This always confuses me. To me, a TF arrangement is both parties getting something out of the deal (model gives time, gets good images) rather than "messed up, sorry...but at least it didnt cost anyone anything" I dont know if that was what you were thinking, or if you had a Nevermind arrangement, but thats how it reads. Anyway...black background. Burn it tonight, it's not helping |

On this occassion they are all friends and were asked if they would mind posing for me to test out my new lighting set up and they could have any of the images that they wanted (which they did!). Since then I've been to the library and bookshops, got various books on studio lighting and set ups and hopefully have learned a few things before the shoots I have arranged over the weekend. Among the books I have are:- "The Art of People Photography" - Bambi Cantrell and Skip Cohen "Pro Lighting - Beauty Shots" - Alex Larg and Jane Wood "Creative Exposure Control" - Les Meehan "Quality in Photography" - Roger Hicks and Frances Shulz "The Complete Guide to Light and Lighting in Digital Photography" - Michael Freeman "Still Life and Special Effects Photography" - Roger HIcks and Frances Shulz I know that books are not the be all and end all, I will take some 1-2-1 tuition when I can afford to do so. I have learnt from you guys today and will continue to learn from the forums, I can also see by viewing other portfolios, I have a lot to learn in this area. Will be looking at Rim Lighting and Separation this afternoon. Will post the weekend shoots next week. Anyway thanks again for the input. Cliffie |
