There's a fb group i'm in (yeah i know drama central but hey ho) anyhoo...

Someone on there has visions of being a stylist and someone who directs shoots as in telling the model how to pose, as a photographer i'm not sure that's something i'd be keen on (styling aye, directing no)

Just pondered what anyone elses take on it was?

I have to say i'm with you on this, styling/make-up etc yes, directing no. Although I guess it maybe useful if you're new to doing model photography.

Sounds something like an art director? Someone whose job is managing the creative vision of the shoot and making sure everyone else fits into it?

Worked with art directors on many occassions over the years, effectively they are the representitive of the client.
One tip when working with/for them make sure they sign off the shoot then if the client wants a reshoot its a fight between the AD & client & you still get paid.

There is only room for one creative director in the village [on the shoot!] and that is me

That role is one of the greatest satisfactions for me and I would only give that role up if someone was prepared to pay me enough for it as that for that segment I would treat it like a paid job that was purely for the cash.

They would either have to offer me something exceptional for another part of the day or cash to the tune of £200 per hour [which aint going to happen] but it is my rate I require for doing things I obtain no job satisfaction.

Assuming this is just a tfp type thing...
It depends on whether the someone is putting together the shoot with a really good creative team and maybe location.
Working with a team of top people can be interesting.

I once did something like this where the stylist/director organised a day around southend (actually I think it was shoeburyness). It was in film days so there wasn't any reviewing of photos and thus photographic issues were trusted entirely to me (we might have had a polaroid camera, but not a back). I think there were 3 or 4 models + a couple of mua/hair + me and director/stylist. Mostly Students. It was a very rewarding day both from photos and experience.
Like any dealer he was watching for the card that is so high and wild he'll never need to deal another...

If I sat down with my colleagues and we decided it'd be worthwhile to bring in a different Director, then yes, I wouldn't dissent; the end justifies the means.

Probably not, however, hypothetically and all things being equal, if that person could show results of their work directing and I thought it could add something to a shoot then I wouldn't count it out.
