| martinchivers Photographer Location United Kingdom Somerset Radstock. Bath | I wonder if anybody, has any ideas! I have a problem with somebody moving an A board outside my shop. I want to film (cctv) using my canon 5Dmk11. I have never used it for filming before. And not really done any video of any description before. I set it up, on the lowest res & with a 4 gig card. I have tried it today, but it cuts itself off. It seams to be 10 minutes to maybe 30 minutes max. The question is WHY! The card is not full & the battery is not flat. I assumed it would run & run until the card was full! The annoying thing is that somebody had bloody moved it – but the camera had not recorded it! Any bright ideas? |

| RedChecker Photographer Location United Kingdom Buckinghamshire Stoke Mandeville | There is a Euro tax on video devices, the limit is 29:59 of recording time on a device (IIRC) before the higher rate of tax comes in for devices that can record for longer (which all dedicated video camera manufacturers have had to pay). Hence the reason digicams (compact and dSLR have been curtailed) | |

| eosfan Photographer Location United Kingdom Surrey Guildford | As far as I know the maximum file size (in a single file) is 4Gb, then the camera stops recording. You can immediately restart video and create another 4Gb file, assuming you have a card big enough. Dave |

| Alister Photographer Location United Kingdom Hampshire Farnborough | How do you explain D4 and D800 HDMI out that can exceed 30 mins recording time? Probably because as soon as you're taking the video off the camera it's technically no longer a camcorder. |

Haven't a clue, I'm no expert, I just remember reading about it when video started to appear on SLRs. A quick google search has revealed it to be the same for non-EU cameras as well, presumably to save any agro with grey imports etc. |
