| HMansfield Photographer Location United Kingdom Nottinghamshire | Nope, I agree completely. In real world use, the shots from my D7000 won't be noticably different to the ones I can get out of my D40 under most conditions. | |

| MG Photographer Location United Kingdom Warwickshire | I shoot professionally... Ie, i get paid to shoot . I dont like losing money on cameras soi tend to buy and sell back ups quite quikly. I buy a new one when the deal is too good to pass upon. My main camera i keep hold of until a new one comes out that i believe will give me an advantage over others with an older model. Things like iso improvements, how many frames a second, focus points etc. |

| anthonyh Photographer Location United Kingdom Essex | Advertising and online photographers sites have basically seduced photographers into believing they will create better images if they buy 'better' gear. On sites like this, I wonder how many people that can genuinely apply to....how many are genuinely limited by the gear they own? I know my 40D (or my EOS 1V) isn't what limits my creativity ...and I know that if I had a spare £1000 for example, spending it on more kit would not be the best use for the money despite all the pressures to make me think it would be a good move. I still keep my 10D as my back-up DSLR...I know it will do perfectly well for getting images onto a site like this....I would almost go so far as saying my G10 will as well. |

| riddell Photographer Location United Kingdom Hertfordshire berkhamsted | I can understand if a Pro needs a new model , but why do folks buy new Models as soon as they can. Actually professionals rarely rush out to buy the new models. In general we've already brought top end gear, and by being top end equipment, it stays that way for many years. Its all the wannabes and fanboys who keep upgrading in a desperate attempt either to / and / or impress people with the latest model, quoting specifications, or in a desperate attempt that the latest automatic feature will improve their photography. |

| Midnite Photographer Location United Kingdom Cambridgeshire Peterborough | i still use a 2003 model Canon 20D at a wopping 8mp. it's strong, well built and reliable. Still takes great pictures and looks like any newer model. If i could change anything on it, rear screen. Bigger would be better for me the one on it is a bit W**k in bright or dark conditions and you cant always see soft focus etc without t**ting about zooming around the screen. it shown no sign of dying so what to replace it with 60d looks ok but gone a bit light weight and plasticy and i can see me coming home with a hand held screen! looks like build quality has take a bit of a down grade to allow video. second hand 5d or 5d2 maybe but still more than a new 60d, so while its not broken i wont fix it |

| andybramahphotograph Photographer | One of my canon 1ds mk2 bodies has just had the shutter blades fall apart ! The second shutter to give up the ghost. I wont be rushing out to buy a new body. I love the ids mk2,canon got it right with this model. i will pay the £500 or so to have it repaired and serviced. As a working professional i use tools i can trust and dont obsess about having a kit bag full of the latest gadgets. regards-andy bramah. p.s. my favourite film camera was the canon eos 3. great to use with that wacky eye-controlled auto focus. What ever happened to that ? |

| anthonyh Photographer Location United Kingdom Essex | . p.s. my favourite film camera was the canon eos 3. great to use with that wacky eye-controlled auto focus. What ever happened to that ? The eye control barely worked...but I have two anyway!! Not sure why...they just looked so cheap and pristine on their eBay listings...and they were!! |

| RedChecker Photographer Location United Kingdom Buckinghamshire Stoke Mandeville | Its all the wannabes and fanboys who keep upgrading in a desperate attempt either to / and / or impress people with the latest model, quoting specifications, or in a desperate attempt that the latest automatic feature will improve their photography. Not true... as an amateur, I've got tons of money to throw at my hobby and spend on gear as I please, I'm not constrained by budgets at pros are. I'm not here to impress anyone, I simply buy the best because I can and I never use auto thank you very much - that's what pros use to guarantee a shot Back to the original question..... The limiting factor years ago for quality was the film, processing, printing etc. Nowadays with digital this has all been eliminated and the camera is now the limiting factor in most cases. |

| stolenfaces Photographer Location United Kingdom London West London | The limiting factor years ago for quality was the film, processing, printing etc. Nowadays with digital this has all been eliminated and the camera is now the limiting factor in most cases. That's true there was always much excitement when new films came out ... cameras didn't fundamentally change much, autofocus was the only game changer in the last 20 years of film cameras, and as most people had perfectly usable cameras with proper focusing screens there was no great rush amongst photographers I knew to scrap their old manual focus. As it happens I am using a D700 which has taken nearly 350,000 shots - last time I checked it was over 340,000. Unless you need video it is difficult to see any reason to move from the D700. |

| Alister Photographer Location United Kingdom Hampshire Farnborough | Its all the wannabes and fanboys who keep upgrading in a desperate attempt either to / and / or impress people with the latest model, quoting specifications, or in a desperate attempt that the latest automatic feature will improve their photography. Is it more than they can and most working pro's can't afford to? Us wannabes usually have a better paid job than the typical photographer so can afford to have an expensive hobby. Gear, especially for blokes, is part of the hobby - whether your interest is fishing, cycling, photography or whatever if you can afford the gear you'll have fun investing in it. A sensible pro has to weigh the financial implications far more. As a wannabe my main camera is seven years old (1Ds II) and I'm pretty sure I've never bought a camera for more megapixels or to impress other people. I'd rather be a wannabe than a pro |
