| tonycsm Photographer Location United Kingdom East Yorkshire Driffield | I'm sure one of you guys will be able to advise me. My daughter has just called to see if I want her old IPhone 3G (or whatever it is as all I know it's got a 3 in the title). It's in perfect working order and best of all it's FREE! I have been looking to upgrade my old phone but didn't want to commit to another contract for the moment now that my old one has just expired though I am happy with my current tarriff so I wondered if I could get the iPhone unlocked easily to work on O2 as, it was originally an Orange contract phone which has now been upgraded by my daughter. If it's possible to have it unlocked, what do I have to do or where do I take it and would the cost be worth it? Cheers. |

| wilsonc Photographer Location United Kingdom Merseyside Liverpool | I had my O2 iphone unlocked recently for £15, which was an automated procedure that took about a week. I'd expect you can do the same on Orange. http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal/474187 |

| anthonyh Photographer Location United Kingdom Essex | Orange do some good deals at the moment (ask at Carphone warehouse and check their website) and you can retain your number......but the UK does seem to be full of market stalls run by Asians that can unlock any phone...I've just had my Orange Android one done.... |

| tonycsm Photographer Location United Kingdom East Yorkshire Driffield | Well my daughter has just rung to tell me that she has spoken to Orange and they are going to unlock it in about 7 days so that part is solved and thanks lads for your help and replies. However, it appears that I will need a compatible SIM from O2 to use the phone. Does that sound right? Is there a special type of SIM for an IPhone or will my own SIM fit? |

| Hotfrog Photographer Location United Kingdom London | The iPhone 3G has the standard size sim . The newer iPhones 4 and 4s have the mini sims. So what should happen is that orange give the phone owner a code to open the phone. You the plug your O2 sim in and then the phone will be locked to O2 which is fine as you are going to use them for your airtime. You can of course go to mr so and so and they will have a method to unlock the phone but you are doing it in the most legitimate manner and it does work. Make sure you have the sim card release key or a paper clip handy to release the sim card holder . |
