| OldMaster Photographer Location United Kingdom Hertfordshire Harpenden | "The researchers believe that within five years, as the electronic components of the cameras become miniaturised and more efficient, the next generation of gigapixel cameras should be available to the general public" I wish people wouldn't write this twaddle. We all know there is a physical limitation to the pixel size for diffraction reasons..and even the latest super glass from Nikon/Canon and the like struggle to perform well on 36+mp cameras. Diffraction on 36+mp FF is starting to degrade resolution after f5.6! I understand the RAF adapt MF and LF lenses to FF bodies to ensure coverage to the corners and use them virtually wide open to avoid diffraction. Also if we are saying that MF backs around 60mp with very expensive optics are getting near to 10 x 8 sheet film quality, how much further do we need to go? Doing the maths on a 1gigpixel sensor and saying the sensor was square at 31,622 x 31,622 for 1 gigapixel, your print would be, at 300ppi, 8.78ft x 8.78ft and the lens would be priceless!! |

| OldMaster Photographer Location United Kingdom Hertfordshire Harpenden | Actually why reinvent the wheel, a 10 x 8 sheet film scanned at 4000ppi will give you a 11 x 8.8ft print!! And that's with affordable kit! So they had it right quite some time back!! |
