| profilepictures Photographer Location United Kingdom Suffolk Bury St Edmunds | As Alex has said, the mk1 canon f1.8 is a much better long term tool than the mk1, in fact given the choice I'd own the mk1 over the canon f1.4, which is a weak design too. Some good feedback for the Sigma, seems our experiences differ from the popular web review opinions hinting at focus concerns. |

| RedChecker Photographer Location United Kingdom Buckinghamshire Stoke Mandeville | Canon Rumours reports a new 50mm f1.8 IS in the offing..... I don't know what Canon are playing at here if this is true. Already they've taken two of their cheapest lenses, shoved IS in them and doubled the price for what are effectively cheap consumer lenses in terms of build and optical quality but are expecting people to pay pro-sumer prices. I reckon this lens will hit ~£300 if this is true, not quite the plastic fantastic we all love. |

| profilepictures Photographer Location United Kingdom Suffolk Bury St Edmunds | I'm buggered if I can work out why you'd need IS on a fairly wide prime? As checker suggests it'd be a negative to give up a golden price/quality ratio in favour of a dubious ( in this context) gadget. |

| mph Photographer Location United Kingdom Cheshire Crewe | I don't know what Canon are playing at here if this is true. It would be nice to think that if they do this it would be a brand new, high build quality lens with even better performance than the current 1.8 - which is fairly soft at maximum aperture. Perhaps it will have a red line? As far as IS is concerned, apart from the impact on cost, I would always be happy to have it - shooting in low light sometimes means slow speeds and I can get shake at more than the reciprocal of the focal length. As Red said on another thread with modern pixel peeping sharpness needs to be better than in the past. |
