| Phil_M Photographer Location United Kingdom Greater Manchester Stockport | Sounds odd doesn't it Jenny. In this case it's less to do with with performance and everything to do with the cost of repair, repair times, parts costs and in this case very probably vehicle security too. There is a much higher chance of the 206 being stolen. I was recently on a forum of bed and breakfast owners, I was sussing out shoot locations and wanted to find a tog friendly place. There was a similar thread talking about the cost of insurance and they couldn't quite understand why a business that describes itself as a guesthouse rather than a b&b, despite being effectively the same thing, can get often lower business insurance premiums. It's all to do with the fact that guest houses attract "better" or sure I say "less risky" customers which does have an effect on claims and therefore premiums. You would be surprised what factors can effect the price. It's often not what you have, it's what you do with it |

| EdT Photographer Location United Kingdom Cambridgeshire | According to the news this morning, there's an actuary's report outr today which shows that in spite of the number of accidents falling last year, the number of claims for personal injury has risen by 18%. I guess that someone has to pay for those claims. |

| wasper Photographer Location Ireland Cork Carrigaline | I have three cars insured and on the road - the insurance set for renewal at the end of the month for my BMW Z3. I only had 2 years NCD on the Beamer last year but I have full NCD on the other two cars and now eligible for 3 years NCD for the BMW renewal. I was insured for the Beamer via the AA brokerage and last year's premium was around £400 with legal protection and with my partner who is relatively young on the policy too. So now I've received the latest AA renewal quote from the same insurance company and they are now asking the stupid price of almost £1100 for the same policy even though absolutely nothing has changed. However, the AA say they can get me insurance with a different company ( same levels of insurance) for less than £700.....great!!!! Being rather peaved I went online and used Compare the Market and it quoted me around £300 for the same level of insurance, incl legal protection with 3 years NCD... The best quote was with the RAC which just happens to insure one of my other cars so I thought I'd give them a call to confirm it was a correct quote. Now it transpires that because I'm already a customer with the RAC, I can't get the internet priced quote and it will work out about £40 more ( around £341.00 with AVIVA) which is only one third of the quote from my existing company so that still seems a win win situation but why can't I get the same discounts as those who are new to the insurance company? Curiously, the RAC also offered me a slightly more expensive policy ( +extra £40) with the same company as the AA suggested ( CIS) and it worked out at a little over just 50% of what I can get with the AA so the AA quote is a non-starter. It just seems that existing customers are funding new customer introductory discounts and existing customers are losing out by being loyal to their existing insurance providers. I suspect from now on I will have to keep changing car insurance providers annually in order to keep costs down and get the introductory discounts that new customers receive - a bit of a pain but looks like it will be considerably cheaper in the long run, especially with three vehicles to insure! Has anyone else run into this and do any of you go directly to the insurance companies and do you find it cheaper than going through a brokerage? I'm with AA in Ireland for 22 years. Nearly every year we have this game, they qoute my a high price and I go shopping and come back with a realistic price that they match. |

| Ian_Wilson Photographer Location United Kingdom Greater Manchester St Helens | They should get this 'approved repairer' lark sorted out too, that's making the cost of claims sky rocket. A £200 repair at my local garage cost just under £1000 at the approved repairer. I'm sure it's just coincidence that £1000 is the mark which takes them into another, stricter level of scrutiny by the insurance company. +1 One of the young lads at work reversed into my new car putting a small dent above the wheel arch. I wanted to get the work done and have him pay for it direct if possible to save his insurance going though the roof but the garage costed it at £650, including one tin of paint at £120! Insurance company recommended this garage as acceptable to them and didn't want any alternative quotes. I think that is where a lot of the insurance money goes, in addition to the encouragement to claim for "whiplash" no matter how slow the impact. Repairs and injury claims need sorting out by someone. The insurance companies have a vested interest in seeing premiums go up as that is their turnover. |

| artistoli Photographer Location Europe Malta Xlendi, Gozo | I wonder how difficult it is to start an insurance company? I can see that as the big boys fiddle it all with repair costs etc and price people out of the market, then smaller firms that were willing to get repairs done cheaper etc may have an opening - maybe as non-profit organisations run by interest groups? Purestorm insurance; by creatives, for creatives |

| jaejay Photographer Location United Kingdom West Midlands Birmingham | Did a Compare the Market search and More Than was the cheapest saving me £250 for the year. Ian I have been to "More Than" a couple of times and they have been more than anyone else by at least 20% and usually 150% more than the insurance I go with. |
