| myshoot Photographer Location United Kingdom Kent Rochester | aw yes , as she will be filling out a model release form i would think yeah ??? so if she has filled it in , and hasnt declared her earnings ? she would then get into trouble and possible you too ? if im told correctly ???????? She might indeed get into trouble but given the op is declaring his income and expenses he would be fine. Models should be aware that many photographer claim back the expense of hiring a model as part of their legitimate expenditure. If they decide not to declare income from modeling to HMRC this could lead them into difficulties. |

| stolenfaces Photographer Location United Kingdom London West London | All snappers should be doing a Tax declaration if they have ever sold a picture and made a profit. Is this just poor English... or are you really (incorrectly) suggesting that after recieving income for a single picture sold, you need to fill in tax forms every year until you die. |

| designerhugh Photographer Location United Kingdom Hampshire | Model fees are a legitimate expense as said before What you need is a receipt from the model or a signed model release stating the amount paid to the model and the date paid. Good practice is also to pay by cheque or BACS but cash payment with receipt is also fine. its up to the model in inform HMRC of their earnings. |

| diipii Photographer Location United Kingdom Worcestershire | there is by far too much rubbish spouted about model release forms and models declaring etc etc etc. if you are using the photographs for your own web site the only thing you need is a receipt from the model saying received £n for modelling services provided. there is absolutely no need to worry about the model declaring it. would you worry about your plumber or gardener or thr driver of the bus you use? of course not ! a proper receipt will include the model's name and address date description of the services and be signed dated. your accountant has almost no say inhow you spend your money if you are a sole trader. keep it really simple and you should be fine e&oe Spot on. |

Might be poor English, the emphasis is on profit. It can actually work in your favour, because of all the expenses you can claim, insurance, travel, equipment etc. You can end up paying no tax in a year and sometimes get a rebate. |

| mgphotomedia Photographer | You can end up paying no tax in a year and sometimes get a rebate. I'm afraid HMRC are wise to that one. They'll kick out your claim on the basis that you're not carrying on a trade "with a view to profit". In other words they'll refuse to reward incompetence by allowing a claim for loss relief. |

| NATKINS Photographer Location United Kingdom Oxfordshire | Some years ago now, but my accountant advised me to ensure that I had written details of the financial transaction with the model in the absence of a dated invoice. This avoids any issues with money laundering apparently. Although I've never been 'investigated', I do keep a copy of the essential correspondence detailing the fees and use the date of the shoot as the tax date. I guess a slightly tangental issue is for models who may not realise they are being documented as a taxable deduction and therefore there is a record of a payment to them even though it might be in cash. I know of one well known model who was investigated and had to retrospectively invoice the photographers she had worked with and then pay a hefty tax bill. Nick |

| KostasK Photographer | If your website is a legitimate site in the context of the business you're in, then models' fees are tax-allowable expenses. From the models' perspectives, declaring their income to HMRC (and possibly other authorities if they are on benefits) is between them and their conscience! |
